Semaglutide is a medication that belongs to a class of medicines known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It was originally formulated for Type 2 diabetes to help lower blood sugar levels. In higher amounts Semaglutide is used off-label for weight loss.

Semaglutide acts specifically on receptors in the brain's appetite and reward centers, resulting in a marked decrease in appetite, cravings, hunger, and delay in gastric emptying.

Semaglutide not only provides rapid and safe weight loss, but reduces comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol, and also offers long-term weight loss maintenance.

While every individual responds differently to medications, a medical study of 1961 participants demonstrated that in a 68-week period, participants lost an average body weight of ~15%. Furthermore, 1 out of 3 participants lost more than 20% of their body weight.

Adults with a BMI of 30 or more (obesity category).

Adults with a BMI of 27-29 (overweight category), who also have weight-related medical problems such as hypertension, diabetes type 2, or hyperlipidemia.

Candidates must not be allergic to semaglutide and must be willing to follow healthy lifestyle recommendations.

Semaglutide can be administered weekly, at any time of day but on the same day each week, with or without meals.

Semaglutide should be injected subcutaneously into upper arms, abdomen or thighs.

History of medullary thyroid cancer

The most common side effects of Semaglutide include nausea, diarrhea/constipation, feeling bloated, heartburn, belching, dizziness, vomiting, and upset stomach.
